Next morning I'm awakened by Stella screaming in pain that head hurts and 15 minutes later vomiting. Dr's restart iv fluids, iv pain meds, give zofran for nausea and we start talking about transfer. Dr. says he's paging a neurologist to visit her and if that can't happen they will be happy to transfer to Cook Children's Hospital in Ft. Worth Texas. Throughout the day she starts feeling better and goodies keep arriving. Mom helped eat this one - YUMMY:) Neuro never comes so we pack our bags for TX while doctors there review her case. That night nuerologist comes to see her. He explains PSEUDOTUMOR CEREBRI the best he knows how. For whatever reason the brain thinks and acts like it has a tumor. In Stella's case did it do that because of tick fever and an abscess - we may never know. It's a rare and complicated condition that often has no origin or explination...i.e. idiopathic. Tells us that she still has papilladema so there is still pressure in the brain. Recomends that we take her home try to get into normal routine, get her up and moving the minute she wakes up since pressures build over night and will be most likely to have headache and vomiting first thing in the mornings. Try to use Motrin sparingly so not to cause rebound headaches and go from there. We felt comfortable with this and canceled the transfer. Did not want to put her through transfer anyway. Plan to follow up with several different doctors.
